shedding question

hum707 Mar 19, 2008 08:31 PM

has anybody ever seen an adult female hog shed individual scales?
I fed her heavy a week ago and then I took her out today and she had individual scales shedding off. I look at her all the time and never saw her eyes go blue. My other adult females shed complete skins.

I would have to say that individual scales is not a normal condition. Although I don't have a particular condition to suggestion, the obvious recommendation is to make sure there is sufficient humidity. Perhaps this snake will require more moisture than others (we're all different, right?) so try soaking her and/or providing a humid hide.

Get her to a vet ASAP. I had an adult male corn do that, and it ened up being a severe skin infection and he died. Shedding individual scales is not normal at all, and is a sign of some other ailment. The animal in question had only been in my care for 4 weeks. His previous owner told me it had mites terribly bad just a few months prior, but they had been treated and were gone. The mites were indeed gone, but obviously left behind some lingering effects.

I took her to the vet and they couldn't figure anything out.
They told me she is healthy. Just a weird shed I guess. Her belly turned blue, so I think she is going to shed. Maybe it was remnants from an earlier shed. It wasn't pieces of skin though it was scales.

As was mine, individual scales.... hope it is just a fluke. Good you took it to the vet.
