heating a rack

sblossomc Mar 19, 2008 08:40 PM

I have seen racks heated with flex but have also seen pics of melamine racks that have a round grey cord routered into the melamine. i want to know what this is and how well it works.

That is heat cable/rope. The only place I've seen it available for quite awhile is at www.bigappleherp.com

The heat cable I've used worked quite well on a thermostat. The benefit of its size is you are able to router multiple grooves and adjust how much cable you have looped for any particular tub. (so can use specific amounts for each individual level and adjust it as needed.)

thanks you said to use a thermostat. should i use a helix or will a digital/programable for household use work.

Go with the Helix. I know many people are good at wiring their own but outside of building my own rheostats I wouldn't know where to begin on wiring my own thermostats.

In that case have him hook you up with some Ranco's
ETC 111000's they aren't proportional but they have a next to never failure rate. I use them with great success. and their a piece of cake to wire.

I just can't get them cheap anymore.

I need someone on the inside.
