Success.... finally!

MikeRusso Mar 20, 2008 09:02 AM

When this girl hatched out she was without a doubt the smallest Alterna I have ever seen! She popped out of a normally sized egg, but she was far less than half the size of her clutch mates. I really didn't think she would last more than a few days..

I have been assist feeding her mouse tails and pinky parts since June of 07... I am happy to say that she finally took her first meal (a small scented pink) on her own last night just before I took this pic..

After all the work that has gone into keeping her alive I guess I have to keep her around!

In this case you can say persistence pays off!

Gosh how many inches was she? Congratulations! That is really nice to hear! I wonder what her full grown size will be.=)

I don't know how many inches.. She was very small and skinny like a baby garter snake.. From my past experience I never thought she would survive.. I guess she proved me wrong!

Her first (assist fed) meal was the tip of a mouse tail...

I know lots of folks tend to sell those cheap or send them off to distributers but it's a good feeling to see one of those fussy eaters take the first meal. May end up becoming a long time breeder.

Congrats!
