Eye Contact

redtoad Mar 20, 2008 09:17 AM

Few reptiles other than Uro's seem to make and maintain eye contact. I have noticed over the years that even though your hands might be the closest body part to a uro they always look you in the eye.

With mine, if I am doing something to their habitat, they ignore my hand and look up at my face. Only when they wish to be picked up or when I have food do they pay much attention to my hand.

I've noticed that about uros in just the short time that I have had mine, but I have also noticed that and more in my beardies. I have a female beardie that not only makes eye contact with me, but head bobs at me, arm waves and does the beardie yawp/smile when she is in the mood for MY company. Then, she has other body language that tells me she does NOT want my attention!

I think people just don't realize how much lizards in general have going on until they interact with a few.
