my snake rack design for iris cb70...

bergmantis Mar 20, 2008 06:21 PM

I dont have very good carpenty skills but I did just designed a 3 shelf rack for the iris cb70s. I designed it so I could get away with using only one sheet of melamine and to have as little leftover wood as possible. I would like input to see if this is a good design as far as dimensions and structure go. This is also assuming the tubs are exactly 6" tall as they areadvertised that way.

Thanks,

Mat

Great design. One tip though from a stregnth point of view.I used to build houses, which makes me a Carpenter.LOL.Ok your side pieces should be inside the top and bottom pieces. This will create a much stronger load bearing construction. In case you ever want to stack something on top of this rack.Just a little tip I thought might be helpful.Lar M

Was thinking the same thing. I'd probably go with the dado on the shelves(on the sides where the shelves mount to be more precise) and rabbit the top and bottom of the sides. Would you just narrow the shelves and cut the sides short so they fit between top and bottom? IMO, that would work fine, but I'd prefer the shelves be supported by more than just screws as the melamine will give a little and overtime can wallow out just supported by screws. Good design though for someone who claims to have no skills???
