And another good reason to buy frozen if you can... No one ever wants to "adopt" them.

Seriously, we purchased these 3 (2 females one male) to start another harem.

So since they are breeders not feeders, I let the ladies pick out the mice. "Cinnamon", "Retread" & "Calico"

Look close, that is Ritz crackers in there. I have found mini wheats, granola bars & my smoked almonds in the mouse cages!

Dorothy & Samantha both watch live feedings, and have no issues.

Neither hesitates to thwack mice over the head either. Heck one time Dorothy beat a mouse over the head with vice grips!

Now my son Brendan on the other hand once painted the adult mice with fingernail polish! When I asked him why, he said...
"finger nail polish is poison, and I know you won't feed them to the snakes with nail polish on them"

That's when I moved the mouse ranch to a locked room.

In closing, I have learned so much about mice and I can say this, if most humans would rear their young with as much care as these rodents do, the world would be a better place.

Every single mouse in each harem assists with rearing the young, I have seen hoppers rounding up sibling pinkies and fuzzies for mom. All the females share the milk, and the proud dad stays in shape by running on the exercise wheel all day.

Peace,
Wayne A. Harvey

haha, that's great. One of my roommates ended up with a pet mouse after I brought some some hoppers only to find that two of my snakes were extremely opaque and the third refused to eat the last one. By the time my other snakes shed the hopper was too big for them, lol...

Good luck with the mice breeders...all mine ever produced for me was a bunch of stink!! I can't stand the little suckers. My experience with mice was that they stank like urine, bit every chance they had and consumed their babies before I could feed them off.
Rats on the other hand don't stink and make great pets. I had pet rats before I got into snakes and it was something I had to think about a long time to decide if I could feed a rat to a snake.
So when I was raising my own feeders I treated all the breeding adults like pets, fed them snacks, kept them clean, etc. Even with the feeders I make sure I treat them as humanely as possible. I like rats, but hey, the snakes have to eat too.
I kept this little guy and named him Vince as in Vince Young, because he had that V on his nose.

I agree about the stink, but either you bought some serously stressed out mice or you were doing something wrong.

Moving my breeders in and out while cleaning the cages, I can just reach in and scoop up double handfulls of them and I get bit maybe once every few months. I don't remember the last time one bit hard enough to break the skin. Either "scoop" them up or hold them by the tail. Grabbing them by the body will get you bit.

They occasionally eat some babies, but only because they breed so fast they get overcrowded if I'm not careful...
