I have 4 mice colinies started, each in a 10 gal. The ratio is 1 to 5 , and food and water is always available. My problem is that two of my colinies eat the babies as soon as they are dropped. What am I doing wrong?

1, when cleaning the cage, put the whole nest with the babies into the clean cage. Try not to touch the babies.
2, Provide cardboard boxes for them to nest/hide in.
3, Don't let the cages get too dirty.
4, Only manipulate the mice when you have to.
5, If you know who is eating babies, get rid of it.

What are you feeding? If the protein is below 25% that may be a key point. Toss in some cat kibble a couple times a week.

do you think mice need that much protine?

25% is a little high. Mouse breeder diets are 20-22%.
