Breeding question

Burner Mar 21, 2008 10:03 AM

If I took a white sided brindle black rat, and bred it too a
black rat, what would the offspring look like? Would they bet het anything?
Also, what would happen if i did the same thing with the w sided and a texas rat?

Any help, ideas or any info will be greatly appreciated

Your offspring would be normal, het for whiteside. I'm not sure how brindle works. I wouldn't breed a whiteside black rat to a Texas, I don't really like hybrids. Keep the lines pure.

As he said, offspring would be het. whitesided and het. brindle. And I agree with him, I wouldn't mix the two subspecies. There have been a ton of black x Texas mixes already, and they don't produce anything truly unique.

You can find both subspecies cheap, so if you're wanting to breed, I'd say look for another black rat, and/or another Texas rat.
