x posted in what kind of snake and on the cornsnake forum. Just looking for any good answers....
Well a craigslist orphan well into my lap. The previous owner told me she was a lavendar cornsnake. Well when I got there it was clear that she was no lavendar corn! I thought at first she was a anery corn, but looking at her in the daylight and I really noticed her saddles were very narrow and her sides almost patterless. So is she an anery corn? Or a grey rat hybrid? Or well...what do you think?

I would have to say that it looks like an anery to me

Yeah, definitely not a Lavender, but it has a funny look that just doesn't look quite right for a normal anery either, It's possible it is just that, but it could very well be something else too. Lots of morphs that have anery in them nowadays, the slight pinkish color on the lateral area is why I say this, also the blotches on the neck area have a slightly different look to the color as well, but the pic is sort of far away and dark to really tell. Could you post some closer, well lit, crisp shots of the dorsal region along with maybe a real nice full body shot?

Don't see any other rat influence though, it looks to be all corn.

thanks, ~Doug

Well I'm not good with underlying morphs, just straight up ones; but could it possibly have a little anery bloodred in it? I know that sometimes the het trait comes out a little bit. Could this be possible?

That's a "ghost" corn, I knew that looked a little funny to be an anery in your first pics. They can be quite variable, but that's a definite ghost. Photo lighting makes all the difference in the world!

Ghost = anery x hypo

What about those super thin saddles? That just does not look normal for a pure corn.
As for the red/pink undertones, I do have an anery that has that same look.
As Doug mentioned, ghosts can vary a lot and sometimes its hard to tell the difference between a dark ghost and a light anery.

Sure, some of the last half of the snake's blotching is a little narrow, but just take a look at his second re-post(without image icon) underneath the one he made WITH the "image" icon. That pic is proof it's a ghost, and not an anerythristic.

Here's that old man ghost I had many years ago, that looks VERY similar to his.

I don't mean to throw a spanner in the works, but I was under the impression ghosts had faded belly checkers due to the hypo in them? The belly photos look like a solid black, suggesting (to me) that it is anery. Just my impression, I'm not expert.

DMong Mar 22, 2008 04:46 PM

Yes, that is a fair generalization, but the fact is, sometimes they aren't really faded too much, and some just have a little less dark checkering, some just tend to look much better than others do. Females tend to be more on the dark side too for some reason. Lighting with the photos has EVERYTHING to do with seeing it properly, and this other photo below that he posted just doesn't look like an anery to me, it looks like a fairly common example of a ghost, it certainly might not be the best example of a ghost, but it looks to be a ghost nonetheless.
