Blood on my MBK

FunkyRes Mar 22, 2008 06:21 PM

Yesterday when I was doing my spot cleaning of my adult rack - I found blood on my adult MBK.

There were a couple drops on his body and some near his mouth, but it was not flowing from anywhere I could see. I wiped him down and checked his mouth carefully and saw nothing. I put him in a fresh tub with newspaper (no aspen), clean water dish, etc. - today, no blood on him or the newspaper today - 24 hours after the tub change.

I'm guessing he bit himself but if there is anything specific I should look for, I would appreciate advice.

He has not eaten since coming out of brumation, but he didn't last year so that seems to be the norm for him in the spring (he's quite stocky). He did copulate with a female, so he felt up to passing on his genes.

Hopefully it is nothing but I'm watching him closely.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I suppose one possibility - all three females in that room have copulated and maybe already are no longer putting out signaling phermones, maybe he is hungry and saw himself as a nice meal.

I can't test that hypothesis for a few days because I don't want to feed him until I'm sure he isn't sick.

If my hatchling rack doesn't eat all their fuzzies todays, maybe I'll offer him the leftovers.

No more blood found - I think he bit himself for whatever reason.
I'll try feeding him today and see if he's hungry.
