HAPPY night tonight!!!!!!!

Panamanian boas born! March 22, 2008. Breeder, Shawn Gilbert (my dad).

I believe these are the first born in the United States!

F1 from 2005 CITES permitted founder stock!

LOTS! Pics being taken right now. All alive, no slugs.

Sadly one (after quick look) does appear to have an open belly and probably won't make it.

WOOOHOOOOO

Jeff, I was going to post that I was in the same boat to your post below, but sorry. Though technically "I" won't have babies till May.

ChrisGilbert Mar 22, 2008 11:06 PM

Still in the goo, clean paper added, misted down.

22 live babies, no stillborns, no slugs.

Not bad for a female UNDER 5'.

Pictures being loaded.

Ha! Lovin it! Reminds me of the time I was at an Importer friend of mine in Miami about 13yrs ago and seen a W.C. Guyana come in that was 4ft and maybe 4 pounds drop 14 beautiful babies. Nice size litter by anyones standards for a perfectly conditioned 5ft beauty......John J

ShawnGilbert Mar 23, 2008 02:02 AM

Yes, and I was just hoping for a few healthy babies. Twenty two was more than I would have expected her to drop.

That looks like a very good litter with some interesting patterns. It is great to see your two generation boa breeding program and I wish you both much success.
Bill Kirby

ShawnGilbert Mar 23, 2008 11:34 AM

I try to keep that "generation thing" going with each of my children. With Chris, it's the snakes. With his sister, it was coaching and traveling with her soccer team. With their younger brother, our "special time" is spent together at hunting camp and in the woods.

mpollard Mar 23, 2008 08:05 AM

Wow, so many babies from such a small mom. Can you do a size reference on the babies too? It just doesen't look like they'd fit in her! lol

Bet it makes May feel like a year away, doesn't it? I know when one of mine finally goes, it makes me anxious to see the rest!

Congrats again!

ShawnGilbert Mar 23, 2008 12:01 PM

I was expecting maybe 12 or so. I was going to wait till they shed to try individual pictures, but this should give you the size reference that you wanted.

By no means are they small babies!

mpollard Mar 23, 2008 02:46 PM

That is amazing! I really thought they'd have to be pretty small be so many from such a small mom. But, as you said, they're not small at all! Best of luck with them, not that you need any luck, I'm sure you'll do a good job with them without luck.

now all I have to do is figure a way to score one of those reverse striped Hypos from you. Once that litter is born, everyone will forget about theses guys!

Ghireptiles Mar 23, 2008 12:37 PM

Don't worry I will keep them in hiding! Gald you had such a wonderful litter and the video is insane. BTW...most of the views are from me watching it over and over!

If you run out of places for them to hide, I'm sure I could find a few spots over here!!

They're looking great and I'm excited to hear that you have the diversity to offer unrelated pairs! Very cool!

well, not just yet. Mom #2 has to do as well, but that is the plan.

JohnnyK68 Mar 23, 2008 08:51 AM

Congrats guys. I can hear Chris' excitment through the posts. That is one helluva litter right there, you guys should both be very proud!

ShawnGilbert Mar 23, 2008 12:11 PM

If you really want to hear his excitement, you should watch the video he posted! Hard to believe I'm paying for an Ivy League education with that grammar!!

Congrats! Looks like you are doing everything right -- husbandry and documentation.
Mom looks great.
Can't wait for more pics (individuals) as they grow.

Must be magic the way you get those underfed skinny old boas to throw 100% good large litters.

Thanks for all the support guys.

The next female is due in just under 3 weeks. Hopefully the litter will be another good one.

Keep an eye out for posts from my dad on their progress. I'm back at school, so I'll miss out until May.

Thanks you all for your kind words and support. They are not the next $10,000.00 morph, but it was an exciting project for us non the less. I promise I will post some picture of the babies after they shed.
