rare snakes?

reptileph Mar 24, 2008 03:38 AM

Hi I heard that people been talking about rare snakes, just wondering what do they mean by rare snakes? do they mean boelens pythons, black headed python etc... just curious.

That's exactly what they mean. Seldom seen, uncommon, or hard to find. I don't consider Black headed pythons rare by any means anymore. Black headed pythons just like angolans are bred in numbers and are ALWAYS for sale. I do consider them high end though.

Well, there still aren't too many Timors around, right John?

I haven't seen too many...what's the status on yours? Mine weren't interested in each other this year. They were newly acquired, so hopefully it was just 'cause of the move. Hoping for next year, though.

Usually someone produces a clutch of timors...1 per yr. LOL yeah there really aren't to many around! How about some pics Jay?! As far as breeding those I know that generally they need to be 5-7yrs old to be successful from what info I gathered awhile back. Younger animals just don't seem to produce.

On this forum rare snakes would be python focused. There are plenty of "rare snakes" that aren't pythons that don't inspire much interest amongst hobbyists. I have a pair of rare snakes that are far less common than even Boelens Pythons, but there is less general interest in them.

Just some thoughts...

Well, Mussaranas are pretty rare in captivity, but this IS the python forum. And my Timors are only 3 years old, but the female is 8'. They do need to be older.
