Gender Confusion

ADWE Mar 24, 2008 12:49 PM

Well, where do i start! i'll try not to ramble, wilst keeping it as informative as possible! I put my normal(male) and my snow(female) into brumation and brought them out on Feb.10! Then on Mar. 2, The snow had it's first shed! I added the male and the snow was the one that started rubbing, lining up, and twitching!i thought this was male behaviour, But just passed it off as unusual, but the male was scared and bolted, to only eventually shared a hide with her! i left them for a few days, took out the male and the next day he started to blue. So i wait until He finally sheds on Mar. 22 and add him again! And Again she goes even crazyier(even a word?) and actually tries to pin him down, lift her tail and try to make him mate, but again he bolts and wants nothing to do with her! Now in looking at it, i think theres a possibility that she's a he?? Let me know what you guys think!

High possibility that it is a male. If "she" is trying to line up and lift the other ones tail. The other could very well be male too. Males will try to run from other males. Or, what you thought was male could be the female. Especially if the snow went crazier when the other shed. Females give a scent after they shed, letting males know they are ready to mate.
Also, although males will compete with each other during breeding season, they dont generally try to line up with other males. The normal behavior would be to try to get higher than the other male and then push his head down. Kinda like trying to pin the other male's head down. A weaker male will just try to bolt from a stronger one.
Females that are not ready to mate will also try to bolt, but they act different.
Hope this helps.
Maybe you just got the two mixed up and the male is the female and the female is the male.

I think you misunderstood about the tail lifting, it's actually the snow that lifts her(supposedly) tail! Which is the only thing that still makes me think it's a female! But regardless, i've arranged to take both to a friend to have her probe them, and if it turns out to be male, she's got normal het. bloodred proven breeder for sale!! thanks for your thoughts on the matter, whenever i doubt myself(happens more often then i like) i just come here to mend my woes!

ahh, so the snow is lifting her own tail. That is female behavior. It was late and I have a tendency to only skim over stuff when its late and I am in a hurry.
Well, hope all works out
