I use and always have used sand for my geckos. I use the sand from PETCO that has calcium in it, my leos have never had any problems. Can someone tell me the disadvantages of sand other than impaction?

As a matter of fact, there are other dangers. Several years ago, before I knew any better, I used this product also. One of my females developed an eye infection because a piece of this "stuff" got up under her eyelid. Quite nasty. And of course she was gravid. Needless to say with all of the stress of the treatment, me giving her eyedrops twice a day, and carrying eggs, I was barely able to save her. This is not to even mention the other problems that might arise from it, like a prolapse (also happened). I have used nothing but paper towels the last few years with NO problems (ALOT CHEAPER TOO!) I have also heard it may harbor mites, don't know how true that is. I am sure some have used it with no ill effects, but I am just letting you know what happened to me.
Good Luck!
Thank you for this info! I'll take this into consideration next time i'm buying floor/bedding. If anyone has any further information on this subject, please let me know!
