Baby Dilepis hatched only 5 months???

Kevin1 Mar 24, 2008 01:23 PM

Hi

i just want to share my experience, yesterday i checked my dilepis(flap neck)eggs and to my surprise they were hatching, but the thing is that they only have been on incubation for 5 months, the mother died trying to lay the eggs so i performed a in home surgery and remove the eggs and incubate them in vermiculite, im living in puerto rico and the temps here are always 80 does any body knows if this kind of climate have to do with my premature babies??? thanks

It might. Also, dilepis has a pretty broad range in the wild. There may be variation in incubation times, length of time the female holds the developing eggs (or their maturity at laying),and hatching triggers based on just where your particular female originated from. If she was late stage gravid when she died it could be the eggs were more developed than they would have been if she was able to lay them naturally.

Wow that's great,
What part of PR?
What temp did you keep the eggs at?

Moca, PR. on the west side of the island , i kept the temps on the mid and lows 80's they are doing really good, but it only took 5 months. and confirmed this because onother friend of mine have another clutch form another female i sold him , and she laid a week before mines and his eggs hatched too a week earlier than mine. wierd hehe
