I'm leaving fri night till mon afternoon, what do i do w/ my cham??

alreynolds2003 Aug 28, 2003 10:25 PM

tomorrow night i will be leaving around 7 oclock. i feed him during the day 2x while i put him in another cage b/c currently the crickets can squirm out of my main cage. so i have a mercury vapor and reptisun 5.0 going at the same time from usually 8am -10pm, the reason for both is b/c he is recovering from mbd and doing well i might add - is that too long to have the bulbs on? So no one is going to be home and i do not trust my only friend that somewhat knows how to care for chams due to the fact that he finds it funny toying around with them even when they are stressing b/c of it, taking care of him. can i leave him home w/out food or a water supply for that long. currently i am just using a deli dripper which only goes for about 20 min when i fill it and misting him 2-3x a day, so i cannot have a water source for him while i am gone! i am investing in a 'big dripper on mon as well.' otherwise i can take him in the reptarium with me and his food and water and lights, the drive is 2.5 hours...the conditions in weather are not significant. i will be driving at dusk so if i put a towel over he will think it is night time. i want to bring him b/c you never know what could go wrong. is this safe?

To be real blunt...
A cham can probably survive - but not to have water for almost 3 days, will most certainly be harmful to his health.

I would take him with.....
Better to be safe - and slightly inconvenienced - than to be sorry and possibly contribute to his ill health. You got him turned around... so don't go backwards now.

12 hours of UVB is usually enough. Ours are on 12 hour cycles currently. You might also try dripping twice per day.

The drive shouldn't hurt... just don't overheat him.
Hope this helps -
