Leo Breeding Question

Youngherplover Mar 24, 2008 08:31 PM

I'm thinking about breeding leos, possibly, but I had a couple questions.

If I got a mack snow male and bred it to my Tremper albino female could I breed one of their baby mack snows back to the father, or is it not good to do that?

The goal is to get super snows without spending a whole lot of money and just buying one in the first place.

I know in some animals it's okay to interbreed a little, but I don't know about geckos. I def. wont do it if someone tells me its a bad idea, though.

Oh, and what is the best time to breed, should you go by weight or age or both?

Thanks!

That's how most morphs were created.

Inbreeding or line breeding is fine, as the previous poster said, that is how most morphs were created. As far as age and weight to breed, the female should be a year old and weigh at least 50 grams. As for the male, as long as he's about the same size or not a lot bigger than the female he is fine to breed. Good luck!

In my opinion many female geckos are capable of breeding around 38-40 grams. We have a group of patternless albinos and not a single female was over 44 grams last year but they produced nearly 50 eggs for us.
