What is the best way to make sure my dragons are drinking enough water?

anson May 22, 2003 11:33 PM

I provide them with a bowl but don't ever see them drink. I also spray them with a bit of water on their heads but they rarely lap it up only once in a while. How do I know they are getting enough? Especially when they are being treated for coccidia and are supposed to stay hydrated. Should I water them with a syringe and if so how much should I give them daily? They weigh 375 grams and 340 grams and are 7 and 1/2 months old.

When treating for coccidia I would recommend watering them with a syringe. Mix a little bit of baby fruit or baby chicken in with water or pedialyte. Dont force it in their mouth, just drip it on their nose, they will drink it on their own usually.

I give all my dragons liquids this way a couple times a week. It gives me time to spend with them one on one and they love it I also give them baths and occasionally spray them down. Plus they eat greens and insects which provide water as well.

In their poo, the white part is their "pee". If they are passing a good chunk of white, they are probably getting enough water. Also make sure their fat pads are not sunken in. If both seem fine, the dragons are getting enough water from somewhere. Goodluck, Lindsay

what are their fat pads? Yes they have a big amount of white in their poo but my male has stopped eating during treatment. He does not even want superworms which are his favorite. He does not seem to be losing weight though. He is seven months old do they eat less at this age? Should I force feed him or only if he loses weight? He looks thinner but weighs the same.
