So, many of you know I'm not breeding my Brazilians this year in order to focus on chondros. Well, it's been a bit of a challenge but I think I finally have some progress to report. Here's the rundown:

This little girl was bred by two males from December to January. The first male was produced by Greg Maxwell. In fact, his father graces the inside cover of one of Greg's books. Here is the happy couple back in December.

She was also bred by this malein January and February. He comes from a well-known high yellow line of animals.

Here is ovulation on February 18th...

and here is what I woke up to this morning!

Don't know how many there are. I might disturb her a little later to get a count. I have an incubator standing by but I think I'm going to let momma try and hatch these on her own. I'm hoping the coloration of the babies will tell me who the actual father is. Now, for a grueling 49 days. Wish me a little luck will you?

Hey Mike,

I'm not gonna wish you a little luck. I wish you a LOT OF luck!
Congratulations, I'm sure it's great to see such progress after
all the effort. Those GTP's are awesome.

Thanks for sharing,
Ed

...that's really cool. I hope you have a rainbow of babies. I think eggs would be the neatest thing ever. Live birth is pretty darn addicting....can't imagine what excitement would come from wondering what's inside the little packages. Also glad I'm not the only one expecting no Rainbows this year.

Hey Mike,
Congrats! Do you think you will be selling many of the babies or are you splitting the litter and keeping them all for a period of time? I only ask because ever since I was a kid I wanted a GTP. I still want one as a pet, so if not this year then maybe your next go at the GTPs?

Mike,
That has got to be really exciting. Keep us posted on the progress. I think its very interesting your going for the maternal incubation. Her behavior will probably keep you spending endless hours in the herp room watching.
Good luck,
Paul

You guys, thank you so much for the positive comments. It looks like momma has come through the laying process O.K. and has formed a perfect "beehive coil" around her eggs. I'll definitely update as things progress. Now, more waiting. Here's one more pic of the proud momma guarding her eggs.
