HELP! Blood in feces!

vampchick00 Mar 26, 2008 02:37 PM

Today I had my female out of her tank, and she pooped on me (which is normal), except there was some blood in her stool. I'm positive she's pregnant, so I was wondering if this was a side affect, or if she needs to see a vet? She doesn't appear to be in pain, and is quite active.

I'd bring the dragon and the fecal to the vet.

a tiny amount of blood may not be cause for concern..but blood can mean parasites, among other things. A vet check and fresh (less than 36 hours old, refrigerate, don't freeze) stool sample for a fecal is a good safe precaution to ensure its not something serious.

Thanks for the replies. Unofrtunately, the only reptile vet in my area is "on a personal leave", so I don't really know what I can do, as I am a student, and have no means of transportation out of the city. If she doesn't show any signs of it again, or seems in good health, can the vet check up wait?

That's really a personal decision you'll have to make.

while you may not get the best exam from a regular vet, any vets office should be able to run a fecal and ID any parasites for you. the question is if they WILL, call a few, you should be able to find one. thsat would at least get the parasite ? out of the way.
