Smells like cedar - Rodents 101

dekaybrown Mar 27, 2008 10:53 AM

After reading a lot of hoopla about stinky rodents I wanted to take a moment to suggest Cedar shavings.

Not only does cedar smell good, it repels fleas and ticks naturally.

So it costs about a buck a bag more than pine, the nice aroma and natural bug repellent make it well worth a buck more.

Mix it up with corn cob granules, and the corn cob absorbs the urine like cat litter.

Choosing a decent substrate makes a huge difference.

Peace,

Cedar makes me sick to my stomach. No way I'd use it.

I used to use it with my pet rabbit and hamsters, but I don't think I'd use it with feeder rodents. The possible toxicity being ingested by the snake isn't a risk I would like to take, personally.

Yeah, I'd never risk poisoning a snake...cedar is NASTY stuff.

Not to mention I consider it inhumane for the mice.
