Egg Bound Female (Long)

Wallbanger26 Mar 27, 2008 12:41 PM

I have a female who has been swollen for 2 months. She shed on 1/23. I had been breeding her since oct. Before and after the shed she was swollen, looked gravid and ready to drop the eggs right then and there. I threw a male in after she shed because I missed the ovulation and he wanted nothing to do with her. Waited a week and tried again. Same result. I was positive she was gravid. My two friends came over and said the same thing. They were asking when she was due to lay. Two week after the shed, I threw a rat in to see if she would eat, assuming she wouldn't because I believed she was gravid. She ate!!! I figured maybe she was building then and the swelling would go down. To make the rest of the long story short, she never bred, shed, or ate again. She never laid eggs either. Today would be like 61 days after her shed. She is still Huge. Yesterdayday she was layiong on her side and I swear I could count the egg lumps in here lower half. Ironically, she looks like sghe's about to shed now.

So my question for anyone who has had a egg bound female is what happened and what was the time line?

Thanks ahead of time for any advice,

Wayne

You should post some pictures...that could possibly help others look at the position of the eggs.

Also, is she restless or straining at all?

She's just chillin'. I removed the hide spot weeks like 3 weeks ago because my friend suggested that she was too big to be under it and lay the eggs and maybe she couldn't find a hotspot to lay. Sounded logical so that's what I did. Even without the hide her demeanor is still passive as always. She still slithers around the cge. I'll post a pick in like 10 minutes. Let me see what position she's laying in.

Remember, she bred last on Jan 10, shed last Jan 23, ate Feb 3 or 4 (very small rat) then blew up. She hasn't eaten, shed, deficated, bred, anything since Feb 3

I was going through a similar thing with my het albino girl this year - she just looked miserably huge - I'm usually pretty good at reading the signs but this girl had me stumped - I kept thinking I missed ovulation (but was checking her daily) so I just waited for eggs - but she kept feeding week after week - WTF - finally last week she had what was an obviously huge ovulation. Huge sigh of relief.

My best guess is your girl is building - after the shed she might pick up her glow - and in a few more weeks ovulate.

But I've been known to be wrong.

Good luck!

She is building for ovulation. Once she ovulates she should (on average) shed after 14 days and lay eggs 28 days later.
