I am starting a caiman hatchling in a 55 gallon tank that I had... I am looking at getting one of those submersible heaters that dont shatter... The question I have is that is it ok and will it work to get a 300 watt one for like 75 gallon tanks rather than the smaller one so that way it will last when he needs a little more water so I dont have to buy another one right away????

your question is worded oddly, but if your wondering about heaters they make plastic aquarium heaters that are shatterproof. they have them at most pet stores. as for wattage, i think you need about a 200 watt- 250 watt for 55 gallons. it lists what wattage-gallon you need on the side of the package.

Sorry it was worded wirdly I just wanted to know if it was ok to use like a heater made for 75 gallons in like 25 gallons or something like that of water?

you would be using excess energy and there may be the possibility of the caiman getting burned. plus if its glass i wouldnt use it because baby caiman are surprisingly strong and will probably shatter it. as i said before, the best heaters for aquatic reptiles are these http://www.marineland.com/sites/Marineland/products/productdetail.aspx?id=2054&cid=1223&mid=3226
i think they have them at petsmart. and yes i know its ironic that my picture has a glass heater in it, but that was before i saw one shatter and electrocute a caiman.
