YELLOW easterns .... (long)...

OZZ1978 Mar 27, 2008 10:11 PM

So I think I finally figured out what it is about the easterns Im seeing all over the place that Im not fond of.

Ive been a boid guy for a long time, about over the last 10 years. I sold off my collection about 3 years ago due to a relocation and have been searching around to get a snake strictly for enjoyment of the animals and to keep as a pet whereas before I was breeding boas and working with Morphs.

For me, the kingsnake was one of the first animals I that, as a child, caught my facination with reptiles and hasnt let go. As mentioned before I like the Cal kings contrast, but I like a larger animal. Ive been looking through pages of ads at eastern kings and even purchased a few last year that didnt really hit home with me and I think I just figured out why. I have a vague memory of being in a pet shop in Florida (I live in Nebraska now), and coming across a LARGE glossy black chain king. To date, I havent been able to find one that matches what I remember and I just thought it had to do with the memory being faded and vague but then I came across this photo ... lol .... its the YELLOW that I like so much in the eastern. As soon as I saw the photo it hit home with me .... I know most like thin white bands but it doesnt get my attention. Plus it seems to fade out as they get older .... this photo really brings back the memory for me. A large, glossy black eastern king with bright yellow markings standing out from a jet black background. Thats what I remember.

Anyone know anyone that is working with a bloodline that produces something like this?? This is where its at for me ... lol ... it just took me a bit to figure it out! :P So if anyone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it!! I know I visited someones website within the last few weeks and they specifically listed yellow eastern kings, "real beauties" and they were charging more for them but for the life of me I cant find the website or remember who it was.

Thanks in advance!

I think Howie Sherman (elaphopeltishow)of Striker's Herps is/was working with a line of bright yellow eastern kings. Also check with Mark Kenderdine (crimsonking).

Hi there Dave, and thanks for remembering me. Hope all is well with you, and that you might be coming to daytona this august. I have 1 trio of currituck,nc eastern breeders, 2.2 va beach eastern breeders and one pair of south carolina breeders. The male is yellow banded and the female is white. the clutches of the last 2 years have produced a mixed bag of close to 3/4 white chains and 1/4 yellow. Hope that helped the poster a bit.

Howie does have some of the best!! Glossy black and all........

Another who produces the yellows is Uwharie, I hope I spelled the name right. I believe he is from NC.
