What would a Natural display tank look like for a Chihuahua Mountain King look like? More on the desert side or a little bit of forest?
Thanks,
Mike

More montaine. Remember, Mountain Kings are generally found at elevations over 5,000 feet.
Think high & dry, very rocky. Brush & shrubs and some Pinyon Pine and yucca. Just starting to get into dry, upper forest of pines.
Surf the Web and get photos of mountain ranges like the Chiricahuas, Dragoon, Sierra Madre Oriental and others and you'll get ideas.
products of the higher grasslands, oakwoodland, juniper pine forest. Of couse they use saxicolis shelters and subterrain shelters. They often live in old dead tress, that is until forest fires re-educate them into safer areas. Cheers
Basically, rocky outcroppings, and Pine forest are prime habitat,....they are indigenous to a VERY small area in the Mojarachic area of Mexico, in the Sierra Madre Mountain range.

The book Natural Terrariums by Philip Purser has a section on building a montaine terrarium on pages 137-143. I just love this book!
You might be able to preview those pages on Amazon... not sure though.

Here is a small and somewhat random viv I use. Not exactly a biotope...the plants are african/ SW US. The stone is from the rockies, and the snake is a cal king. lol
It is kinda neat to keep a snake this way. I only see him once a week or so. When I see him peaking out of the crack on the lower right he looks just like you would find him in the wild. It feels like a real privilege every time. He is growing just as well as his siblings in rack drawers, if not a little better.
Since this pic I have added a background and a better water bowl.
