I was reading one of my new turtle books that I bought on amazon, and it said that mud and musk turtles were the oldest turtles to evolve in North America from ancient ancestors (snapping turtles being oldest in the world but not specific to evolving in North America) and more importantly to this forum; that box turtles are the most recent turtles to evolve in North America. Just thought that was an interesting box turtle history fact tid bit worth sharing. Maybe that helps to explain why they are so dang smart.
