Baby corn on the run...

AbsoluteApril Mar 28, 2008 01:53 PM

Hello.
I just have to voice my frustration. I haven't had an escape in over 7 years. My hurricane snow motley baby that I just got 6 months ago is gone. He was in shed so I was checking on him, and low-and-behold I must not have snapped the lid on his tub all the way. I go in the next day, find a shed skin in an empty tub. Crapola! It's been a week now. My snake room is also a 'storage room' just to make things more difficult. I've got some plastic bags along the walls, I sit in there at night and try to hear him moving around. I put some lines of flour across the closet doorway and in the corners to see if I can find out where is his moving around. I've put a live fuzzy mouse in a bottle in the room to try to tempt him to come eat. I am just getting so sad. I hope he is okay. I am in the room 3 or 4 times a day with a flashlight looking and have torn so much of the room apart. Maybe I am going in there too often?

Anyone have any other ideas?

If anyone has lost and found baby corns before, give me some hope! lol I lost a baby corn once back in '99 and found him 2 weeks later in my kitchen by luck. It's just so nerve-wracking. Maybe I should try the 'mouse-baited' bottle trap again now that's it's been a while and see if he's hungry yet? Get up every night from 2-3am and just look? Would a baby corn be likely to climb up high to hide?

He's just so small still and there are so many places he could hide.
Thanks for letting me vent and I welcome any ideas or encouragement!
-April

This thought is a day late, and a dollar short, but you really should have tightly stuffed a towel under the door to isolate him to JUST that room as soon as you noticed it missing.

leave some shallow dishes of water around in corners of that room, as well as the rest of the house, this way, you'll be sure it has water,......snakes can survive months with no FOOD, but not too long without WATER.

good luck!, ~Doug

Thanks! Yes, I did stuff a towel under the snake room door, so hopefully he's still in there and I'll find him somewhere. Got a water bowl sitting where his tub was and one on the floor. (A heating pad too) Keeping my fingers crossed!

We had an escape a while back, spent all day looking low.

Found him six feet up, on a shelf watching the fools tear the room apart.

I hope you have a happy ending story to tell soon.

Kind regards,

Some people just don't see the beauty in them, but I think they look very cool

I see them out in the woods when walking my dog, I've never kept any though.

Ah,...okay!, that was a good move, as long as it didn't escape under it before the towel was stuffed underneath, hopefully that wasn't the case.

Good luck finding the little guy!

I've only had two animals escape one me. One was a small gliding lizard that I found in the bathroom (it was looking for water) and the other was an adult corn. The lizard was an escape artist (very small and flat) and the corn was in an old 20 tall with the aluminum frame and a screen lid that didnt fit right (new screen lids dont fit them at all). I ended up finding her curled up in the recliner!

Good luck, I would check moist places in the house to see if she got out pre towel under the door.
