Breeding with different type of boa....

Kelly_Haller Mar 28, 2008 07:35 PM

I like to post this stuff occasionally to give a little more variety to the Boa Forum, although it usually has enough. As some of you know, Jud McClanahan and I have been working with a breeding group of green anacondas for many years now. In order to diversify our breeding colony, and get new bloodlines going, I decided to try a male I held onto from our 2001 litter, with a completely unrelated female. He has never been with a female before this, but when placed with the large female the other night, it didn’t take him long. He showed serious interest within 30 minutes, and this photo was taken the day after the introduction. This male is currently about 10.5 feet and between 50 and 55 pounds. The photo gives you a good perspective with regards to the size of this large female. She is somewhere between 150 and 175 pounds and about 16 feet right now. Both of these greens are extremely docile and have never been a problem. If she takes this time, it will be the third litter that she has produced for us since her first in 2003.

Jud’s large male is still growing and is approaching 13 feet in length and is 18 years old. I spoke with Jud last night and this incredibly docile large male, that has produced previous litters, is currently breeding another very docile, younger female at his facility. This female has never been bred before, but she has great size and weight and is definitely ready. So far, the young from the last four litters produced by our combined breeding group have all been exceptionally well mannered and extremely docile. It will be interesting to see how things turn out this Fall. Thanks for looking,

Kelly

Good luck with those Kelly. CBB Green Anacondas have been the most docile and intelligent snakes I have ever kept.

Good body weight and looks like she has quite a lot of orange on her. I definitely agree with you. I have kept all of the big four constrictors at one time or another over the years and green anacondas are by far the most fascinating. Thanks for posting the photo.
