if the Motley is bred to a known Pastel to make the babies. Out of those animals I only call the Motleys pastel if they show the increased color and increased crispness to the pattern like you see in this year old animal from Motley bred with a Ronne Pastel.

I sure do like Motleys that show good color in the tail
like both of those do.

It seems to me that Chris's motley is much more pastel looking than yours, no offense, just my opinion that his is more pastel than yours. Very confusing ???

Chris I can't say I'm an"expert" on the Pastel or Motley Pastel subject.Your Motley certainly has those Motley Pastel qualities. Those qualities that have shown up in the Motley Pastel Breedings.Like breedings by Bill kirby & Jeff Ronne for example. Your Motley is hands down gorgeous, that's indisputable.Lar M

I was just checking, I know if you bred a motley to a "known" pastel.....what should happen. I am just saying for me I have no pastels animals and I really think my motleys exhibit all of those psatel charcteristics.

There is no doubt you consistently produce some very colorful Motleys. In my litters the ones that wind up the most colorful and pastel appearing are not the light ones like in your picture. They tend to have much darker backs with very crisp patterns and colorful tails. Other babies may have similar color as babies but it is the dark ones with the really high contrast crisp patterns that become the most pastel looking adults. Here is a baby and the next post is her as a yearling.

Motley x Ronne Pastel. Not all of the babies in the litter get coloration like this and some look more like conventional Motleys.
Obviously I have limited experience with this but in the Motley litters I have produced the only animals that get this color are the ones bred with a Ronne Pastel. I have produced some other very colorfull Motleys including the 25% surinam Motleys but they have a different appearance.

I love that motley......I was in no way saying something negative, it just seems that some of my animals turn pastelish as they grow and the animals I used are not from the pastel bloodline.

I am not offended at all. I also think you consistently produce some of the most colorful Motleys ever produced.

What I was trying to point out is that I think what happens in this combination is a little different than what I expected. I have produced 22 Motleys and 10 jungles from this female in the past two years and there is a very consistant pattern. The babies that show the highest contrast most crisp patterns are the ones that develop the color of the pastel. These babies stand out from their littermates due to their high contrast. I actually think the pastel unmasks the motley or jungle pattern. I have not seen this in any other Motley combination I have produced. I have produced some very washed out looking Motleys especially the ones that are het for anery. The washed out ones are what would fit the idea of what a pastel Motley should look like but, as I said above, I actually think that in combination with other morphs the pastel may manifest itself differently. I would like to hear other breeders experiences with pastels bred with other morphs.

Chris I look forward to seeing a single awesome baby from each of your litters and wish you good luck.

I hope you have some outstanding babies as well.

Bill you are speaking specifically about the Pastel Dream Line of Ronne Pastels correct? I still believe that line of Pastel Boas has more affect on other boas & morphs then any other line of pastel Boas. Lar M
