MT. "dwarf bulls"

daneby Mar 29, 2008 12:11 AM

There is a spot called the Big Bend just south of Great Falls, MT. that has a population of small bull snakes. I've never seen one over 4 1/2 feet long from the area, and most of the adults there are smaller then that. Last summer I took home a gravid Big Bend female that measured about 40" long. She ended up giving me 13 good eggs that hatched out some super small baby bulls. I gave some to Shawn Eby for him to grow up to see how big they will get, and turned the rest loose back out at the Big Bend. Here are some pics to show how small these hatchlings were.

This first pic shows three of the small Big Bend Bull eggs (far right), hatching next to normal bull eggs.

Here is one of them the day after hatching next to a hatchling Sinaloan Milk Snake

In this picture the one on the right is a one month old Big Bend Bull and the one on the left is a day old yellow bull

Thanks for looking,
Dan

In my third pic I meant to say that the snake on the left is a one week old yellow bull, not a one day old.

I like those, especiallythat they do not get that big. Do they still have that ravenous Pit appetite.

Thanks,
They are fed weekly, and are staying pretty small.
