APLAXAR Mar 29, 2008 08:29 AM

I was curious if anybody has used or is using that incubator from Kemps? and how do you like it?

I was wondering the same thing a little while ago...
If I was a beginning hobbyist I would be hard pressed to buy a incubator that size for that much. Hovabators or home built or a shelf in the snake room all do the job well.
Don't get me wrong, I love that people are actually looking into this (I love egg incubation....) but the things that make the embryos survive grow and hatch (heat, air, water) have little to do with what box they are in.

yeah the price tag is steep, and that is why i was wondering, is there something about it that makes it truly worth it. its a neat system and has the bells and whistles.

I have been looking at it as well, but to me it seems like a lot of money for a small incubator??

what do you like about it?

it just looks very nice, but you are definitely right about the size, i think it says 60 king/corn eggs, for a bigger time breeder that isnt much space, i bet you would have to get a few to take of your alterna clutch loads.

Here is what I do.

Next time you guys get in a sturdy styrofoam box at the store take it home. Set it up so that the top opens sideways, you can use velcro to keep it secure. Run a small piece of flexwat in there and tape/tack it to the back wall. Then spend money on a decent thermostat (I like the Herpstats) to plug the whole thing into.

Eggs need very simple requirements and it doesn't take any big fancy equipment to keep them happy.

The thermostat you can use the rest of the year to give night time temp drops to the rest of the collection. And when your done just toss them so they don't sit around taking up space.

I usually run three of these at different temps for dif species. That is how I have hatched all of my colubrids, anthill pythons, and geckos for the past three years.

I'll take some pics of mine.

I received an order from Micedirect in a large styro box with a tight fitting lid that will work perfectly. I'm going to use that as a 'bator

I haven't used one of these, but i will recommend Natures Spirit Reptile incubators as that is what i use, and you really can't go wrong with them.
i absolutely love mine... to me it is the best mid-sised incubator on the market.
