OBX feeding on skink.......

wisema2297 Mar 29, 2008 09:32 AM

This little girl has a voracious appetite now!! She chased this little ground skink around the shoe box three times before catching it by the hind leg. Next step is to scent pinkies. One good thing about having assist fed her for so long is that she got to where she would swallow the meals on her own while I held her. So now she has no objection to being held or eating for the camera.

Looking good Ralph! She's even eating while opaque.
I bet you'll have no problems with scented mice now.
Good luck!

And Ralph, Once they start voraciously going after the ground skink, all you have to do, usually once(twice at the max) is to quickly rub a ground skink on a pink or fuzzy. That's all the scent they need and-- boom, watch your fingers. After that they just take off. Got to see a pic after the shed.

Man!,.....I really like those "sticticeps"!!!

I agree with the other's too, and don't see a problem at all with a scenting or two, and the little dude bangin' pinks/fuzzies from then on, especially eating so well while in "blue".

Looking good Ralph. I'll bet she's just about ready to take a scented pink.

thats a purdy onecongrats! after a few of the skinks offer newborn live pinks scented w/skink id put a few pinks in a delicup break the skinks tail and leave tail, blood&skink and the pinks in the deli for a few hours ive also had better luck with placing a few pinks in at a time, kinda maybe stimulates them to finding a nest who knows but i raise mice so no problem. best of luck w/him/her i love them speckled easterns

Hey Thomas,As I said above, the beauty of the Outerbanks Kings, in general, is that once they feed on one ground skink, no tricks need to be employed other than a quick rub of a pink or fuzzy on a ground skink and this is ALL needed to initiate feeding, and usually only one time before switching to pinks. The feeding response of most Outerbanks Kings can develop into a mad dog/great white shark feeding frenzy/ Curly before the MoeLarryCheese response. So as I said above, wathc them thar fingers.

hey howie, i totally agree. some can be "nitpicky" but when they take off they TAKE OFF. and to clarify what i was saying is instead of putting one pink in put 3or4 in a pile, usally they only eat one but i have been suprised to find them all gone and ive had lil ones in the past that have to have the skinks but after 3or4 skink meals would readily and eagerly take pinks. now wanna see something thats awsome told to me by john cherry and i have proven it as well. the ones that take pinks unscented as their first meal when raised up and bred their f2s will all readily take pinks as first meal, imprint i suppose anywho fun stuff take care,,,,,,,,,thomas

easterns are the best!

You are lucky. when I raised aggressive eating parents and bred them not all the babies took pinks right away like mom and dad. wish that formula worked for me.

wow i guess i am lucky and have only tried and succeeded w/it on lgg and lg splendida&holbrooki and it wasnt 100% but it was noticable,,,,,,,,,thomas

I love that chase that goes on. The point is that you have a strong feeder -- now it's time to work it! Good stuff.
