OT: favorite reptile book?

carl3 Mar 29, 2008 10:42 PM

Just curious what members of this forum have in their herp libraries. Since I'm determined to NOT buy any new reptiles this year, I have been catching up on my reptile library. I have a b-day coming up and I have asked my wife for a few rare and interesting reptile books.

Anyway, which reptile books are your favorites?

I liked Ron Trempers "The Herpetoculture of Leopard Geckos". It is a couple hundred pages of gecko nerd stuff if you like that kind of thing. Not only are there a lot of color and pattern mutations in leopard geckos but you can determine gender and color by adjusting incubation temps. there is even a gene for gigantism! I am personally fascinated with genetics so it was a great book for me. maybe i need a boa book though

Vin Russo's The Complete Boa Constrictor: A Comprehensive Guide to the Care, Breeding, and Geographic Races.

Spectacular!

"The Complete Boa Constrictor" and "The Complete Ball Python" are very good books. I also really like "The Reproductive Husbandry of Pythons and Boas" and have re-read a lot of it many times. "Designer Morphs" is also a good one to have. I also like "The Living Boas" and "The Living Pythons" and of course "The Boa Costrictor Manual" is a must have in my opinion.

I'll cast a second vote for: "The Reproductive Husbandry of Pythons and Boas", great book. I enjoy Greg Maxwell's "The More Complete Chondro". If you like iggys "Green Iguana: The Ultimate Owner's Manual" by James Hattfield is a must have.
I just finished reading "The Giant Snakes" by Clifford Pope written in 1961, very interesting read! I got it at the library and plan to buy it.
I was looking for the name of a book I have (it's currently in storage) but can't find it, a nice coffee table book, just stunning photographs, something like the 'comlete reptile and amphibian'. Ah well... There are so many good books out there, hope you get a bunch!

not posting any books but try looking in used book stores or used sections of bookstores, you never know what treasures you'll find.
