Modjeska / Santiago Canyon Gopher

I posted my pair of these not long ago... I still think there's something weird going on here.
Neither look like the SD gophers commonly found in that area.

Do they look like San Diego's to you guys....?

Both are very high yellow.

I see SD in this pair as well, but I also see what looks like Great Basin or even Sonoran.... Both are a stretch but it is possible.

I actually lean towards the founding stock being and escaped or released pet and mixing with the local population (SD).

Byron, I see Basin maybe but whatever they are they are nice and clean and locale pits.Bruce Atherton used to have some insane high yellow s.d. gophers from the santa ana area.

Like Shannon says, I see deserticola too. No matter what they are the snake pictured is smokin'. The pattern is very light and very clean. Your theory on escaped pets mixing w/ the local population is an interesting one. Is their locale within annectens range or does it border deserticola territory?
