How young would you say...

is the minimum age to handle/touch a snake. I have a four year old girl who is begging to touch my boa. I've read that a child's immune system is only fully developed when they are 5 years, and even though I am "Monk like" in my cleanliness regimine of my only two snakes, I know it's possible they could carry salmonella (like all reptiles.) Is washing hands before and after handling enough at this age, or should I just play it ultra safe and wait another year?

My kids were around 2 when they first started to hadle our animals!

Just use your best judgement! as far as dissease NEVER let them kiss or put any animal in thier mouth and wash thier hands after handling!!!!

Just my opinion!

on my myspace page is my 2 year old holding a pastel male! http://www.myspace.com/apabana

My little girl would probably try to kiss the snake, so I'll make a strong "no kissing" speech before I let her hold him.
