Sick Leopard Gecko

Bambi26 May 23, 2003 12:38 AM

My gecko has been acting very strange lately.
He's always been small, but never this small.
He's refusing to eat, hes acting lathargic and hes very
deathly skinny.
He's also got a blue/green mark across his belly that has been there a few weeks now.
He was eating just fine until just recently.
But when he walks now he falls over like he broke a leg or something.
And wants to do nothing but sleep.
He just got done shedding and didn't even eat it.
Which is very strange. He always eats his shedding.
He refuses crickets and meal worms and waxworms.
Could the markin on his belly mean he has a parasite.
Or that hes clogged so to speak?
How can you tell?
Or is there any way to tell.
I have thought about going out to get some drops
that helps make his appetite a bit better and some calcium spray.
Does anyone know if that would help?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sandra

try a drip or two of minerial oil, you'll have to force it in his mouth with like an ear dropper. we had a female the same way and after we did this she gave out a huuge poop and has been healthy ever since.

Ill try that thank you

There is no way we can tell for sure what is wrong with her, so a vet visit should definitely be in order.

Sounds like she could be impacted... or has internal parasites.

The dark mass in her stomach sounds like impaction, try giving her a few drops of mineral oil, and perhaps give her a supervised soak.

Make sure you don't let her get dehydrated.

What kind of substrate are you using?

Unfortunatly before I realized it wasn't a good idea to use sand. I had already put sand in.
So Im cleaning out the tank today to put in paper towels.
I am givin her some mineral oil today in hopes that will help him out.
And I have been spraying him and he has been layin in his water dish a lot since last night.
I'm hoping the mineral oil will work and by takin out the sand that this will won't happen again.
I just hope he survives through this.

ok I just gave him 2 drops of the mineral oil. How long generally would it take for it to kick in do you think?
I also noticed when i picked him up that he had fecal matter stuck to his butt hole..gross i know. But I cleaned it off in hopes that will help as well.
