10 Gallon tank heating

tcabner Mar 31, 2008 12:40 AM

I am new to keeping a BP and I'm about to acquire a younger BP within the next week or so. I have a 10 gallon aquarium with a metal mesh lid, and I'm curious as to what sort of heating setup I should use. I read around a bit, and I noticed a recommendation to use at least a 60 to 75 watt bulb. Anyone want to offer me a suggestion for an ideal setup for a 10 gallon enclosure? I realize I need an UTH as well for the hot side, what brand and size should I go with? Also, what wattage for sure (red basking light specifically) should I go with on the hot side, and should I provide any form of heat at all on the cold side or maybe just a lower wattage bulb? The ambient temp of the room it will be kept in is around 70-74 degrees, and I will be using Eco Earth bedding for substrate as I heard it works pretty well with BTs and it holds the humidity pretty well.

for my snake i got 2 75 watt bulbs for him. One that is a basking lamp which i use during the day and then a red one that i use at night. The daytime temperature on the warm side is about 85 and the cooler side is in the upper 70s. I use an uth with a pot on top of it for the snake to hide in. Mine seems pretty happy with the set up. I would not suggest putting any direct heat source on the cool side as long as the temperature of the room you keep it in is rather normal. The snake will regulate its temperature by moving from warm to cool.
