Candeling egg problems

skmcwilliams Mar 31, 2008 06:01 PM

Hi

I have been breeding beardies for 10 years now so I am not a newbie but I am nervous as when I have ever used a flash light to check on eggs I can always see the baby jerking around inside. Now I have a clutch that I have been waiting for the parents to produce thse forever so I am super anxious for these to hatch, they have gone 68 days now at 83 degree incubate and 3 weeks ago I did a quick candeling and I could see the babies moving around now there is no movement from any of the eggs what so ever. Do they go dormant right before they hatch? I hope so I really want these guys to be okay. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I'm not positive of this but I read it somewhere. I read that shortly before hatching they kinda start running out of room and slow there movements.

I never candle mine. I have heard a lot of strong opinions regarding this over the years (scares and stresses them type things) so I just go with the better safe than sorry. At 83, they should hatch within the next 2 weeks or so.

Thanks for the reply all, actually the first little one emerged last night, so I guess they do go more dormant right before hatching. I am also sure there is not as much room either, it seems like they are only taking up half the egg in there but I am not seeing all the egg sac in there that I am sure is taking up the other half.
