Shedd Aquarium in Chicago

vanstorm Mar 31, 2008 07:55 PM

Has a pretty cool lizard exibit. They have a large croc monitor, several smaller tree monitors and a huge Komodo along with several other species. Went there on Sunday with the family and had a good time. If anyone is looking for an activity to do in Chicago I would recommend it.

I went last Fall and was VERY impressed. I took lots of photos but don't have them online.

I added the photos to my site...

I love the way their Oceanarium overlooks Lake Michigan!

Another cool place to vist is Milwaukee Public Museum. I go regularly, but that's more of a social visit with my good friend Dr. Robert Henderson

i saw the lizard exhibit last year as well and was also thouroughly impressed. i thought it was for a limited time only? the shed aquarium is awesome front to back, with tons of reptiles on display. i really like the way the shed includes so many herps in its other displays. i guess my only complaint was the obesity of the komodo dragon.

I haven't seen it yet...waiting for our Government rebate check!
I here it is pretty expensive, and would break the bank with 8 kids and 2 adults.
That's my beef with the exhibit! They should make it more affordable.

hey mike, im here to save you some dough. when asked your zip code at the ticket counter use a chicago city zip and your total cost will be cut in half! a little deceptive, but hell it is expensive.

thats odd, they didnt ask us for proof of residency. we gave them a city address and in we go. at one time my older brother had an office in the basement and we could go for FREE. ah the good old days. damn him for advancing his career. lol.

Joe
Ask your Brother if he knew Dr. Gerald Bassiler.
I worked with the good Dr. for a year at the whole sale level(salt & freshwater fish), great guy to work with.

What wholesaler did you use to work for. I sell fresh and saltwater fish and inverts for a living. Thanks Ian

I worked for Bill Selby, O'Hare Tropical Imports.
It was the best job I ever had, I was trained by Dr. Bassiler in acclimating Saltwater shipments and I was in charge of the Reptiles and small animals.
It was the largest wholesaler in the region at one point.
This was back in the late 70's early 80's.

We bought the family membership that allows us to go as much as we want this year and it cost $115 for me my wife and our 4 kids vs. the $94 for just the daily visit. So We just have to go once or twice over the summer.
