Crickets make good food for milks.

terryd Apr 01, 2008 10:01 AM

It has been discussed here on the forum many times.

Every one knows that the nutritional value of Crickets is far superior to that of mice. But it is very hard to get milksnakes to except Crickets.
I have finally got my whole collection of 120 or so snakes to all take Crickets, and stay on Crickets too.
How have I been able to do this, where eveyone before me has failed, you may ask?
I scent all Crickets with mouse scent. Easy as that. Now my adult Hondurans are taking 150 Crickets every two days and loving it. All my North American milks are now huge with full bellies of Crickets.
I don't understand why know one has tried this before, but it works, try it, and you'll have full happy snakes too.
Good luck.
And happy April 1st.

This Parrot snake has it's mouth open for a Cricket I'm holding off camera. It's "NOT" trying to bite me.

I'm with you on the crickets Dell. My island boas are the last ones to switch over. They are determined rat eaters but I'll get them switched in due time. GUT LOADED all the way baby!!!!!! RW

No wonder you fit in so well with the rest of us!!

Here's my grandaughter "assist" feeding her snake. It's a plastic easter egg fill with . you guessed it - Crickets!!!
And we found that the crickets do much better if they have their own "blankie" - pink seems to be better than other colors and perferable silk.

Have a good season

Steve

especially when I have to hand feed my group of Crotalus lepidus!!!

dekaybrown Apr 01, 2008 02:03 PM

My fully grown Burmese eats like 500 crickets at a time.

Sometimes he likes to have some pinkies when he gets really hungry.

My milks on the other hand prefer pizza.

Happy day all..

I hope everyone knows that Dell is just funnin' about the cricket thing. Everyone knows they're a poor choice for food and not likely to be eaten, anyway. We actually feed most of our milks almost exclusively on these:

The Northern Scorpion (Paruroctonus boreus). They're far superior in nutrition and the snakes are always telling me how flavorful they are.

Happy 4-1, everyone!

I couldn't stand the racket from 60,000 crickets anymore so I pick up a jumbo bucket O'chicken nuggets and it keeps them all very regular too.
Somebody's gonna post a pic of a snake munching on a cricket....

I found that feeding the crickets bran flakes (gut stuffing) it keeps all my snakes very regular.

Why do they call them "Corn" snakes?

>>>"Why do they call them "Corn" snakes?"

I've been telling folks that for years!..LOL!

BTW,....that's also why their yellow coloring intensifies as they age!
