this snake was stopping traffic. Several cars watched me photograph this handsome serpent, and when we left he was still right there. (april '05 Brewtser county, Texas)

Thise are some nice photos Joe....I had to make that last one my background on my computer. I'm loving a lot of these natural intergrades that have been posted lately. There are some great looking animals that locality nuts like me find very intereting. People mainly focus on the "pure" forms but some of the animals found in these transition zones are nice. For example, all of the variations found in the west Texas area, the intergrades of mugitus and lodingi found in AL, and in SC there are some wonderful looking animals that are intermediates between melanoleucas and mugitus and they're are many others.

Wow! If a sight like that on a road doesn't get you going, well then I don't want to know you. Great natural pose.

Thanks, Joe. Those photos really made my day. Nothing like seeing a beautiful snake on a beautiful day in the Pecos.

I'm glad all of you appreciate Pituophis. They are common in west Texas and I think because of that sometimes they don't get the respect they deserve (present company excluded).
