substrate for chilean dwarf tegu

beth9395 Feb 08, 2003 02:02 AM

hi,
i have a chilean dwarf tegu. i have her on sand right now, but was told that a sand dirt mix would be better. i went to a couple stores and all the different dirts there have plant food or fertilizer in them. i was wondering if there is any brand or type of dirt that doesnt have anything added....what is safe for my tegu? thanks a lot!!

If you go some of the chain pet stores (Petco I know for sure caries it, because that's where I get mine), you should get some Forest Bed. It's this super compressed clean dirt. You just add water and it expands like crazy. That's what I have my dwarf tegu on and it's great for helping out with the humidity.

These lizards are from a arid region of Chili. I would use either Dirt , or a sand top soil mix. I used a sand top soil mix and was able to keep the humidity at 40%.I have made up a care sheet for these guys. If you want one ,Email me at russpettit@yahoo.com . godd luck Russ
