Georgia Law on Caimans???

Dwarf Apr 01, 2008 02:01 PM

Getting contradictory info on this. One source says DNR has all encompassing prohibition of caimans. No license available. Others say this is a local issue actually. Please help!

This is a case if neither of those. In the state of Georgia, it is unlawful to possess ANY inherently dangerous animals as "pets" without a permit. They have listed all families, except Gavialidae. Good luck getting ahold of one of those. From my understanding, Georgia is a tough place to get a permit for anything else.

(a) The following animals are considered to be inherently dangerous to human beings and are subject to the license or permit and insurance requirements provided for in subsection (f) of Code Section 27-5-4:

(2) Class Reptilia:

(A) Order Crocodylia:

(i) Family Crocodylidae (crocodiles, gavials, etc.) - All species;

(ii) Family Alligatoridae - (alligators and caimans) - All species;

Thanks.

But how on earth do we go about getting this kind of permit.

DNR says this is not even available. But surely this is one of those bureacratic things you have to weave and prod through?

There must be a method.
