generally a dog crate.
If its a long trip- we drape a towel over the front door- on the inside- sometimes they rub to get out-- not had a huge problem though with the towel.
I put a towel in teh bottom too-- in case someone didn't potty at the last rest stop...
We've used storage totes as well- the big grey ones from walmart--- use duct tape or bungee cords to hold the lid down....

I use the big grey Rubbermaid and he coils up in there, but it's a tight fit. I put him in tail first, he coils around, and eventually only fills it halfway up. He seems fine, but since we do community events, the public perception is that he's being crammed into a too small enclosure. Personally, I think he's fine, but I was curious as to what others did with theirs.
I use an A bag. It's a big green canvas bag. You can usually get them at an Army surplus store. I got mine while I was on the Air Force. It works pretty good, you put them in and zip it up. If they make a mess in it, you just get the big stuff out and throw it in the washing machine.

we get the questions about "where does that live" or "awww poor thing-- its cage is so small" -- the cage they're seeing is either the D-O-G crate or a large aquarium with a screen top-- that is about the size of one of those rubbermaid totes....
We now have pictures that we put on our table-- with the rabbit/rooster/pig pics and a sign that says "are YOU ready for THIS?!"
i don't like bags all that well-- makes them rather awkward to carry-- the crate 2 people can pick up if needed.
We usually put the crate in the car, put snake in, drive, pull snake out, pull crate out....

I have considered a bag in a container, just for driving purposes. Yeah, I have to remind people when we are on display that this is not his standard cage. The rubbermaid is OK for now...my guy is 12 ft long, but he's just 50 pounds. Still, that's better than the 35 when I got him last August!
I place the snake in a bag, usually a burlap bag, and then in a plastic storage box.
The bag can serve a few purposes:
1 - comforting the snake with a sense of security
2 - hides snake from public view (especially in the case of sitting in a Vet's office
3 - reduce or eliminate nose-rub on potentially damaging surfaces of the transport container
4 - adds another measure of securing the snake, reducing escapes
Of course, a lot of it depends on where you're going, how far you're traveling, etc...
Later!
