Sweet! Great score. Dont you just love CraigsList?

I got this one off of CL in NC a few weeks back. She looks a lot better now that she's in some humidity, but she'll look better still once she sheds a few times. The 20L, screen top and CHE did her no favors:

Nice!
Yes, I LOVE Craigslist. Once you get past the $300 Ball Pythons.. Lol!
My best snag was a FREE subadult (2000 grams) 1.1 Pair of GORGEOUS high color Sumatran Red Blood Pythons. The couple had purchased them from a well known breeder and needed to make room for their Ball Python morphs. Score!!!

FRoberts Apr 01, 2008 08:49 PM

Every time I get one from anyone it turns out to be a male. I have 2.0 Sumatrans. One yellow phase and one chocolate phase. I grew them both up from babies that where sold as "Red" Sumatran bloods. I am glad to be honest they are quite beautiful. If you want to see them go to my web page and look under the Pythons. Very nice. I love blood pythons both of mine are tame but need to be watched, they get pissy if you mess with them too much lol.

Beautiful bloods, Frank!!!

I've been looking online for a baby. There are only a couple young short-tails at a store near me (in MN), but they're not quite what I'm looking for. I wish there was a big Herp Show nearby!

There are many bloods available online selling as Captive Bred. Just so you know it's like the farm raised ball pythons so don't let most people bs you. There are many people on the blood forum that breed them though. The good thing is even the farm raised ones settle down and almost always eat. They are voracious feeders when they are babies. But they all look about the same and can be any color when they grow up. I like the chocolate phase the best and I didn't even know what one looked like.

Thanks, Frank! I should probably start skulking around the blood python forum for the scoop on who's selling what. It's been ages since I've been on any of the forums (very busy), but I'm trying to sneak back on for awhile... (It's so much fun!)

I do not go there much but there was this woman there that knew her stuff and had some VERY nice blood pythons. Can't remember her name though

I just popped in there for a few minutes and noticed Tracy Barker also posts on there. She has a fabulous online care sheet at vpi.com and has written about bloods for various publications. Awhile back I scoped out her site and if I recall correctly, she has no bloods for sale right now. Perhaps we're in between breeding seasons? Someone else on the Blood Forum showed a picture of a gorgeous albino female with a big clutch. Maybe I'll just have to wait a bit (and build up that old anticipation) before I get one...

Except for some Ivory Bloods I think she sold off her bloods to Nerd and Pro Exotics from what I recall.

Yes - From what I understand is that the Barker's have sold off most of their animals. They are very respected, so it would be worthwhile to try to track their Blood animals down. I do believe Kara at NERD ended up with some (or a lot of them)!

It's a shame the Barkers sold off their bloods. They have the most spectacular photos on their website! They also wrote an article on bloods for the Nov. 2007 Reptiles Magazine that I just downloaded. I suppose they didn't have time to pursue all their breeding interests, and ball pythons are more popular...

now THAT is a score!!

love the $300 BP listings. right up there with the $500 labs...lol.

I saw an ETB on the Raleigh CL a month or so back. That was very tempting, but I want to get into those with multi-generation CB when I start adding them. really tempting tho...

Love your red boy....major score, well done!

FRoberts Apr 01, 2008 09:19 PM

I also think (know) those with multi-generation CB are the secret to success with ETB. I have seen a friend who knows his stuff fail many times with imports over the years and I have been telling him the same. The price is soooo very different for a reason.

that you both got those beauties for free! Congratulations!

I'm looking for a young blood python and a guy had a full-grown one for free on CL---but I didn't want to get a full-grown one that had NOT been handled a lot.

Any advice on who sells great baby bloods?

I know that Kara at NERD is very respected in the blood python world. Her email is mailto: kara@newenglandreptile.com.

She speaks about bloods at the major shows and I believe even here on KS. Thus, her animals may cost a bit more - but you know you are getting top notch animals.
