I think I may be over-supplementing

djfuente Aug 29, 2003 09:37 AM

My veiled is 3-4" SV and his diet consists of about 14 med crickets everyday. I supplement every feeding with a 6:1 ratio of dusting cosisting of both rep-cal and herpivite. I did this because I read on many care sheets that when they were young, I should supplent with calcium every day and herpivite once a week. With all of these cases of MBD coming up, I'm beginning to wonder if I've got it all wrong. He hasn't had any symptoms of MBD yet but I just want to make sure I get things straight...it's kinda hard when everyone tells you something different.

Continue reading the other thread you started... we are getting to the crux of the problem. Don't feed so much food... let the cham's body grow slower so that the bones can keep up!

Yes... too much supplementation.
We recommend rep-cal weekly and minerals once a month

And sunshine is a GOOD thing... a few minutes of sun (mid morning or late afternoon) is the greatest for growing bodies. 15 minutes a day 3 times a week can really make a difference. As they get older, you can increase the times. Watch for overheating on the little ones (they get pale). Get their sun-time in NOW.... before winter and cold weather.

Morgana, did you mean to say Vitamins once a month?

djfuente Aug 29, 2003 01:39 PM

Ummmmm.... yup. But I think some have minerals too.
But the vitamin dust... yes.

This is providing that people are feeding their feeder insects a good diet - not just empty insects.
