Breeding TX Rats

AmandaTolleson Apr 01, 2008 08:05 PM

I hope to start breeding TX Rats next season. =) I have a 1.1 Adult pair and a 1.0 Yearling. All three are very nice.
My male is a wild caught about 1 1/2 years ago. He came not so healthy but is just glowing now! Excellent muscle tone and weight etc. The female is new here. But based on how the male did in a year I think the female should shape up well.
So just to make sure, how many grams should the female be before breeding?
Thanks in advance!!

(Shown is my baby, he is showing a lot of red, even at this young age. =) I don't have any good pics of my gorgeous adults.)

I too just got an adult pair of Texas rats. I hope to breed them this year. The ones I have are not that aggressive. They are so beautiful and variable. I wonder why you dont see them that often for sale? All I really see are the luceys and albinos.

Yes! They are so underrated!
Of the 5 I have they all look different! I hope to selectively breed for a high red and orange skin. =) Just aquired a big fat 6 footer female yesterday.
