UTH, Heat Lamp or both?

cenobite74 Apr 02, 2008 08:25 AM

I am currently using only a UTH on all 3 enclosures. The ambient temp stays about 70-74 in the room but the infrared thermometer says it is 89-92 in the hide on the warm side and 72-77 on the cool side. I originally had heat lamps as well but got rid of them because I thought it was creating to much heat in the entire enclosure instead of just one spot. Just wondering what everyone else does.

A UTH of the correct size is usually enough. Your temps are good ta go. What are you doing for humidity, if I might ask?

Nothing really. The weather is starting to warm up around here and the outdoor humidity has been relatively high so usually I just open the window when the outdoor temp is in the 70's. Keeps the room about 65%-70% humidity. Other than that I just mist once a week. I've never really had a problem with it and I'm even using aspen! May switch to a mix of cypress and eco-earth though just because I think it looks better.

One thing to remember is that a heat lamp will suck the humidity out of the air and can dry out a cage in min.s . so be careful when using them on reptile that need a higher humidity . David
