Follicles? What is really going on

dacherrypicker Apr 02, 2008 10:58 AM

My female has been breeding since the middle of February. To what I can see and feel she is developing the follicles. I can feel lumps all down the rear of her. She is still breeding. Should I be looking for ovulation soon?

First, are they really locked these days or is the male just trying?
Second; is she looking for cold spots, hugging water bowls, not eating etc...

She has gone off food!! I popped him when I took him out for a break and he has plugs that were left on the tip. She has been pretty much trying to lay unc-coiled. Laying all the way around her cage stretching herself. I am pretty sure they were actually locked up. They have been breeding for weeks. They are still together today for the 4th day in a row. Never witnessed them apart at all for four days!!!! My other females stopped breeding already but it seems this one is just taking really long to develop follicles. They are there and big. I can feel them plain as day. Just let him do what he keeps doing? She doesnt seem stressed. I usually seperate them after three days to give them both a break. Then wait three days and put him back in.

Keep introducing the male until you see an ovulation. You CANNOT miss an ovulation if you check your snakes daily... its just so obvious! She is most likely still building... she will begin to lay cold and even inverted with her belly in the air. Watch for centralized swelling in her mid section!

I agree. She is in the beginning stages of building. Some build for a long time -- some short. She WILL get bigger closer to ovulation. Laying cold and inverted laying as Erik referenced will be good signs. Keep breeding her and I still like to offer food every week. Many become ravenous just prior to ovulating. I have feed 3 rats to some of my larger females in one night. I feel their instinct is telling them to have one last feast before they go. If she "wolfs" some rats -- look for the SWELL. Good Luck.
