aquatic reptile cage?

webspyyder Aug 29, 2003 10:13 AM

im in the planning stages of building a new enclosure for a juvenile alligator and i have a few questions. is it safe to use epoxy compounds in the cage for waterproofing? does anyone know about any safe materials that i can use for landscaping, such as how to make fake rocks and stuff? the cage is going to be large and i dont want to have to use real stone for landscaping because i dont want it to weigh a ton. any help or hints or ideas will be greatly appreciated. thanx all.

Do a quick search for hypertufa on the web... Great stuff and slightly lighter weight than cement. Or... Make a frame out of whatever you want (ie wood) and make a chicken wire mesh mold in the shape you want... Line it in a pond liner, spray in Great stuff foam, and shave down into the shape and surface. LEt it set...then get some Polyurethane safe epoxy and coat it down, Then coat using spackle or cement and sand. Then coat in pool epoxy. It worked for my friends indoor turtle pond...its 4 months old, and hasnt leaked yet... You can even make alcoves for filters, and put a drain in.
